Home visit requests should be made by 10.30 if possible; if the surgery is open one of the doctors will usually speak to you. If the surgery is closed an answer machine will give you an emergency number to phone.
In accordance with Local Committee Guidelines (agreed with the CCG) home visits are usually only offered to terminally ill patients or whose condition may worsen if they were moved. If the doctor does not feel that a home visit is warranted then you will be asked to attend surgery, if it is felt that you have an emergency you will be seen straight away.
You will usually be seen quicker if you come to the surgery. Children can usually be safely wrapped up and brought to the surgery.
If you have an emergency when the surgery is closed you should phone the surgery and follow the instructions on the answering machine.
If you are not sure if your case is an emergency you can phone 111..
